Eyes of Hate. A candid photograph of Goebbels after he finds out his photographer is Jewish

Eyes of Hate: Joseph Goebbels. Goebbels smiled at him until he learned that Eisenstaedt was Jewish - a moment Eisenstaedt captured in this photo. Suddenly, "he looked at me with hateful eyes and waited for me to wither, if I have a camera in my hand, I don’t know fear" the photographer recalled. The photo is from 1933 during a League of Nations meeting in Geneva. Goebbels did not survive the war, he killed his family then committed suicide in Berlin when the Soviets where closing in on Berlin. His wife poisoned their kids with cyanide, telling them it was medicine.

A quote from Joseph Goebbels diary:
The Jews are now being deported to the east. A fairly barbaric procedure, not to be described in any greater detail, is being used here, and not much more remains of the Jews themselves. In general, it can probably be established that 60 percent of them must be liquidated, while only 40 percent can be put to work […] A judgment is being carried out on the Jews which is barbaric, but fully deserved.

  1. It feels so nice to see pictures and photos and the memories captured by the great photographers.
